 How to Transform an Idle Moment into a Moment of Confidence


One that allows “idle” moments to slip through one’s fingers fails to grasp an opportunity for success.

An “idle” moment is not long enough to pull out a book or a laptop. These are moments when you are on hold, sitting in a reception area, or in line at the bank or grocery story.

I have discovered that many people can harness these idle moments and turn them into moments of empowerment.

Here’s why this is important. The mind is still active. It continues seeing pictures, hearing inner dialogue, and generating mental and emotional states.

So I’ve developed the following technique that insures these states are radiantly confident ones.

Take a deep breath. Elevate your gaze as if looking at an imaginary point just above a distant horizon.

Call to mind an experience in which you demonstrated confidence. Draw this experience from any time in your life and from any aspect of life such as professional, recreational, tennessee wineries or whatever occurs to you. The confident feeling you recall is more important than the details of time, place, or subject matter.

Let your mind make an image of this experience. See this image as if through your own eyes. From the perspective just behind your eyes, let you imagination sharpen the focus, brighten the colors, and bath the image in abundant light.

See the image move closer to your mental field of vision as if you moved several rows forward in a movie theater. Let your imagination add the sounds, sensations, and feelings of this confident moment as if the event was actually happening.

Notice how good this empowering and confidence-affirming memory makes you feel when you let your imagination bring it into focus. Let your mind set this wonderful experience aside for just a moment.

Call to mind four other experiences of confidence. Follow the same instructions outline above. As you conclude each one, let the mind set it aside and continue with the next experience.

You will discover that the first confident memory suggests the second and the second suggest the third and so on. At this point, I encourage people to “run these images together” and generate awesome confidence.

Call to mind these five images in rapid succession. In your mind’s eye, see these images as if watching a high speed slide show.

Practice this a few times. Notice how the surges of confidence run together and reinforce each other! And your mind can see these images much faster than you can read these words.

Now call to mind an “idle” moment that you experience regularly. What difference does it make when you use this moment and ones like them as launching pads to skyrocket your confidence?

So transform “idle” moments into dynamic experiences of confidence. Let others daydream while you build the foundation of success and achievement.
